Lift Truck Battery Safety
The power to operate electric lift trucks is supplied by large industrial batteries that have to be charged regularly and maintained properly. Safety procedures should always be followed when someone connects the battery to the charger. It is really essential to check battery fluid levels.
Personal Protective Equipment - PPE

Emergency Eyewash Station

Charger Safety
The charger must be the same amperage as the battery. It must be turned off while the battery is being plugged in.
Open Flames
While in the vicinity of a battery and charging area, open fire are prohibited. Do not allow objects like lighters or matches to be utilized when someone is inspecting the fluid levels in the battery.
Ventilation
The battery charging are also has to be well ventilated. The recharging process can release fumes. These fumes are both toxic and explosive.
